Our Story

A love letter
to Bengali
cuisine.

The dining room at Kolkata Social

The Restaurant

Kolkata Social is a restaurant borne out of the desire to showcase the cuisine Chef Ahana grew up with. Bengali food shaped by memory, migration and lived experience — a space where different generations come together to relive memories while creating new ones.

Building something new while staying rooted in your culture.

At its heart, Kolkata Social is a reflection of a shared immigrant experience. The restaurant brings together the warmth of Bengali hospitality, the energy of Kolkata's social culture, and a diverse approach to contemporary dining in Sydney.

The Menu

A seasonal menu that changes with what is available. The dishes are nostalgic with contemporary flair — viewed through a third culture lens, the menu holds on to heritage while pushing it forward.

Every plate is a conversation between where we come from and where we are. What you see is a sample — come in and let the kitchen surprise you.

Chef Ahana

The Chef

Chef
Ahana.

"Ahana's love for cooking came inherently from her mother. From her she learnt what seasonality meant and the importance of building relationships with your producers."

Born and raised in Kolkata, Ahana's cooking is shaped by the city she grew up in — its street food culture, its family kitchens, its rhythms of the seasons and the market.

More of Ahana's story coming soon.

What we stand for.

01

Heritage

Every dish carries the weight of Bengali culinary tradition — family recipes, time-honoured techniques, and the flavours of a city that lives through its food.

02

Community

A nearly all-female team, a commitment to training future talent, and a dining room designed for connection — we are more than a restaurant.

03

Seasonality

We cook with what is best right now. Close relationships with local producers shape our menus — honest ingredients prepared with care and intention.
